Spent last night at an 18th birthday party. Yes, you read that right, I was invited to an 18th Birthday party. How cool am I? How in touch with today's youth am I? Lol, I'm milking this for all it's worth. I'm not going to mention what some of the girls were wearing.
It was a good night, though having Mia all day today while Cathy works is not a great hangover cure. Even more so when she throws up all her breakfast all over her high-chair, her clothes, basically everywhere. Even in her hair. Got her cleaned up, then spent 20mins getting it all off the straps on her high chair - all of this when I wanted to just curl up and sleep.
It's 12 noon now and I am just starting to come around. God bless coffee.
Anyway, spent an enjoyable night Friday playing poker and surfing You Tube for some comedy poker clips. Most involved Phil Helmuth - and I got some wierd looks from Cathy sat on the sofa watching me laugh hysterically - especially at this one
HERE.
Also found a helluva bad beat in a High Stakes game with Negranu (pocket 6's) v Hansen (pocket 5's) on a 8 6 5 flop. The turn threw another 5 and it cost Daniel nearly 300,000$. I think he can afford it though.
Poker for me is going OK, nothing great, but nothing bad either. Seem to be building up a nice stack at a table only to drop back down when a 1 or 2 outer hits the river to wipe it out. Seems these bad beats hit you online about 20% of hands, looking at my Poker Office stats. I'm not talking about pre flop raises not improving on the flop, but when you make a hand. AK v 45 on a K 2 5 flop, and he calls and hits runner runner str8. Or my 66 v the villian's 10 J on a 6 9 Q flop.
I make the call very difficult for him on the flop, and again on the turn, a ridiculous double pot size bet - but he still calls and gets rewarded for his madness with a K on the river and I'm back where I started. I'm at the point now, where I am factoring in runner runner hands into my calling/betting strategy, as I see so many.
Not sure what else I can do in these situations. If I check, I've given him free cards, but I bet it hard and I lose more. We talk about odds of various types, but what's the use if no one else at the table pays any consideration?
Anyway, no complaints overall, January shows a profit for the month with 3 more days to go. It's my birthday on Monday, and I'm heading over to Nottingham for 3 days (I'm coming home Monday night, but staying over Tuesday) to help with a few issues in our new offices there - so hopefully I'll earn some 'gold stars' if I can sort them out.
Good luck at the tables.
